Expectations

The Alexandria Singers hold rehearsals every Tuesday from 7:00 - 9:30 pm at the Lincolnia Senior Center. There is also one Saturday rehearsal each month from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. Singers are expected to arrive on time and attend all rehearsals. Absences must be coordinated in advance with the Director. The group performs two concerts per year, one in December and one in June, with an additional week of rehearsals before the June Show. In preparation for the June concert, additional choreography rehearsals may be scheduled. In addition, other rehearsals may be scheduled as needed throughout the season. Non-mandatory sectional rehearsals for all voice parts are available and can be beneficial to attend if you miss a rehearsal.

Dues and Fees

Dues for the calendar year are $75 for individuals 25 years or younger and $125 for all others, payable in January,and are prorated quarterly based on when Members join the Singers. Members having financial difficulty making dues payment on time will need to speak with the President to arrange a payment plan.

Word of mouth from Singers about our shows is a very important marketing and outreach tool that helps us fill our auditorium. Therefore, each member is required to sell $100 worth of tickets to each of the major concerts. Additional fundraising opportunities are available to help offset this requirement if members wish to participate.

Music

Music is purchased new per season based on the director’s choice of a program. Members will need to purchase their own music, approximately between $25-30 per season. There is a standing “Repertoire” — pieces we use for the majority of concerts and events we perform throughout the year. As new members, you will be asked to purchase and learn these repertoire pieces in addition to the seasonal selections. Learning media is provided to Members to assist in memorization of repertoire and seasonal pieces . Most pieces for the Holiday concerts are memorized and ALL music for the June concerts is memorized.

Attendance

All Singers should notify the Director and their section leader prior to being absent from a performance or rehearsal. In the event that a Singer has a significant number of absences during a season, the Director reserves the option for a one-on-one discussion with the Singer to determine readiness prior to participating in any performance.
