DC Area Tenor and Bass Singers Wanted

We hold open auditions for new members twice a year, in January and August.  This is an update from our usual cycle of holding auditions for the Fall season in September and will allow us to maximize our time for preparation of the holiday repertoire.   Our next Guest and Audition night will be held in person at Lincolnia Senior Center, recreation side, on Tuesday January 14, 2025.   Please note that we will be auditioning for Tenor and Bass Singers only this cycle.  All Tenor and Bass Singers (regardless of gender) are encouraged to apply.   If you haven’t already, please complete our Audition Inquiry/Application to make an appointment to attend our Guest and Audition night on January 14th.  If you have any other questions, please contact our Membership VPs at [email protected].

When You Arrive:

When arriving for our Guest Night or a scheduled audition, please follow the posted signs to check in. The Membership Team will greet you and provide a basic orientation to answer any questions you might have. If you have not completed our application online, you will be asked to complete a short audition form (providing basic contact information and details regarding your musical background and experience). After the orientation, all perspective members will “sit in”, warmup, and sing along with us through an abbreviated rehearsal. You will also have an opportunity to see the Singers perform, so that you can get an idea of what we do.

The Audition Process:

After Guest Night has concluded the audition process begins!  It consists of two segments: singing and choreography.

For the choreography segment, you do not need to prepare anything. The Creative Director will teach you some basic choreography steps, and this segment is typically done as a group standing among the chorus as we learn or refresh a piece.

The singing portion of the audition will take place at the end of rehearsal, and each prospective member will meet individually with our panel- which includes the Director, Choreographer and Board President (or other creative team representative) for a private, individual voice audition. The Music Director asks that you bring a prepared piece to perform, with sheet music for our accompanist, if possible. (You can bring a recorded track to sing along with, if you prefer, provided that there are no vocals on the recording. We will have a Bluetooth speaker to plug a device into.)  Your audition piece can be anything you like from any genre that you feel showcases your voice.  If you do not have a prepared piece, you may sing "My Country, 'Tis of Thee". Our director may then guide you through testing your vocal range and a few simple vocal exercises. The entire process is designed for you to be as comfortable as possible and be at your best!

The individual audition process itself takes about 10-15 minutes.

After Audition:

You will be notified by the Membership Team within a week of the audition as to whether or not you have been accepted as a member of the Singers.  New Members will attend rehearsals beginning Tuesday January 21st.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our Membership Co-VPs at [email protected].
