DC Area Singers Wanted

Update ao 9/13: Though The Singers still plan to return to rehearsal in person in the very near future, we will be conducting virtual auditions and one singular guest night this season on 9/21. If you have already completed your auditions application, you will be contacted by our Membership Team with details about any changes or instruction for your audition. If you have not yet completed your application, please do so by CLICKING HERE and select 9/21 as you preferred audition night, and the Membership Team will contact you shortly after. Thank you for your understanding - we are so excited to meet you!

We hold open auditions for new members twice a year, in January and September. Our next set of guest and audition nights will be held in person at Lincolnia Senior Center, recreation side, on September 14th and 21st, 2021. You need to attend only one. If you haven’t already, please complete our Audition Inquiry/Application and make an appointment with our Membership VP’s by contacting them at [email protected].

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a virtual audition option is available for individuals who are not yet fully vaccinated or cannot attend in-person at this time, but will be able to be fully vaccinated and attend in-person rehearsals by October 12th.* Please contact our Membership VPs for specific instructions by emailing [email protected].

When You Arrive:

When arriving to Guest Night or for a scheduled audition, please follow posted signs to check in. The Membership Co-VPs will greet you and provide a basic orientation to answer any questions you might have regarding the group. If you have not had time to complete our Application online, you will be asked to complete an audition form (providing basic contact information and details regarding your musical background/experience). After the orientation, all perspective members will “sit in”, warmup, and sing along with us through an abbreviated rehearsal. You will also have an opportunity to see the Singers perform, so that you can get an idea of what we do.

The Audition Process:

After Guest Night has concluded the audition process begins!

The auditions are held with the Director, Choreographer and Board President (or other Creative Team appointed designate) and consist of two segments: singing and choreography.

For the singing portion, you may be asked to sing warm up scales, sight-read music, and then sing your prepared piece. Please bring sheet music or an audio recording (and means to play track) with you. If you do not have a prepared piece, the Music Director may ask you to sing "My Country Tis of Thee," so that he can hear your voice with the piano.

For the choreography segment, you do not need to prepare anything. The Creative Director will teach you some basic choreography steps, and this segment is typically done as a group standing among the chorus as we learn or refresh a piece.

The individual audition process itself takes about 10-15 minutes.

After Audition:

You will be notified by the Membership Team within a week of the close of the complete audition cycle as to whether or not you have been accepted as a member of the Singers.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our Membership Co-VPs at [email protected].
