DC Area Singers Wanted
We hold open auditions for new members twice a year, in January and September. Our next set of guest and audition nights will be held in person at Lincolnia Senior Center, recreation side, on September 13 and 20, 2022. You need to attend only one. If you haven’t already, please complete our Audition Inquiry/Application and make an appointment with our Membership VP’s by contacting them at [email protected].
We’re modifying the audition process so that all participants are guaranteed to have the opportunity to audition for the Singers. All applicants are asked to submit an online audition video, so that in the event COVID-19 protocols require our Guest Nights and Auditions be held virtually via Zoom, our panel will already have your submissions in hand prior to meeting with you. We ask that you upload your video by Tuesday September 6th, 5pm EST. Complete instructions for recording and submitting your video will be provided by the Membership team when you complete the application linked above.
When You Arrive:
When arriving to Guest Night or for a scheduled audition, please follow posted signs to check in. The Membership Co-VPs will greet you and provide a basic orientation to answer any questions you might have regarding the group. If you have not had time to complete our Application online, you will be asked to complete an audition form (providing basic contact information and details regarding your musical background/experience). After the orientation, all perspective members will “sit in”, warmup, and sing along with us through an abbreviated rehearsal. You will also have an opportunity to see the Singers perform, so that you can get an idea of what we do.
The Audition Process:
After Guest Night has concluded the audition process begins!
The auditions are held with the Director, Choreographer and Board President (or other Creative Team appointed designate) and consist of two segments: singing and choreography.
The singing portion of the audition will take place at the end of rehearsal, and each prospective member will meet individually with our panel. As your video will already have been reviewed by our panel, your individual, in-person audition will be a short interview with our Music Director, Creative Director and President, as well as any vocal range testing, sight singing, or other exercises that the Music Director may decide to do. You will not be asked to sing your chosen audition song again.
For the choreography segment, you do not need to prepare anything. The Creative Director will teach you some basic choreography steps, and this segment is typically done as a group standing among the chorus as we learn or refresh a piece.
The individual audition process itself takes about 10-15 minutes.
You will be notified by the Membership Team within a week of the close of the complete audition cycle as to whether or not you have been accepted as a member of the Singers.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our Membership Co-VPs at [email protected].
