
Joe Cerutti is a nationally recognized conductor, educator, and consultant with more than two decades of experience leading vocal ensembles and empowering arts organizations around the world. He currently serves as Music Director of the Alexandria Singers, Artistic Director of the Alexandria A Cappella Collective (formerly the Alexandria Harmonizers), Director of Leadership Engagement for the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), and an independent coach and consultant to over 200 choral groups throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and the Pan Pacific.
In 2025, he began his tenure with the Alexandria Singers, bringing his experience and enthusiasm to support the ensemble’s continued growth and artistic excellence. Rooted in a lifelong passion for community-based music-making, Joe is particularly excited to build on the ensemble’s unique legacy of vocal artistry, showmanship, and connection with the community of Alexandria.
At the Barbershop Harmony Society, where he has served since 2013, Cerutti has held a wide range of leadership roles spanning youth programs, educational events, music educator engagement, and organizational partnerships. He currently focuses on supporting the development and impact of volunteer leaders throughout the Society’s global network.
Cerutti is a lifetime member of BHS and was honored with the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his enduring contributions to the barbershop art form and community. He is also a charter member of the National Collegiate Choral Organization, a longtime member of the National Association for Music Education, and a past member of the American Choral Directors Association’s National Standing Committee for Advocacy and Collaboration.
His conducting, adjudicating, and workshop appearances have spanned five continents, including performances at the White House, the Supreme Court, Carnegie Hall, Wolf Trap, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Beijing's Forbidden City Concert Hall.
