Creative Director

Karen Reedy is a choreographer, dancer and dance educator. As a dancer, she performed locally with D.C. Dance Theater and Eric Hampton Dance, before moving to New York where she worked with Robert Battle, Sue Bernhard, Louis Johnson, Patricia Kenny, and the Mark Morris Dance Group. As a choreographer and director, she presented her first full evening of dance in October 1997. In 2007 she founded Karen Reedy Dance (KRD), a professional contemporary dance company named “best in dance” by Sarah Kaufman in 2011. KRD is devoted to nurturing artists through the exploration of new work and collaboration with other art forms. The company performs in both traditional and site-specific venues, and has been enthusiastically received throughout the country, in venues including The Kennedy Center, Dance Place, ODC, Black Rock Arts Center, The 92nd Street Y, The Torpedo Factory and Joyce SoHo. Ms. Reedy was a 2008 recipient of the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage Local Dance Commissioning Grant for the creation of Sleepwalking. During the 2012-2013 season, Reedy was a Metro Arts Incubator Artist at the American Dance Institute, where the company had its premiere of Albatross. Ms. Reedy holds an M.F.A in Dance from George Mason University, where she is an Assistant Professor of Dance. This year marks her eighth season with The Alexandria Singers! (www.reedydance.org)
