Past President

A native of Connecticut, Marla went to undergrad at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and law school at California Western in San Diego, California before settling in the DC area.

Feeling the need to find music again after so many years reading law books day in and day out, Marla first joined the Singers in the Fall 1994 season.  Since then she has had the privilege to serve as President, First VP, Performance VP, Treasurer, Administrative VP (now Development VP), Member at Large and Webmaster.   A proud supporter of Alexandria as an arts destination , Marla has also served  two terms on the Alexandria Commission for the Arts (the organization that administers the grant money from the City of Alexandria, advocates for the arts in front of City Council, and provides educational resources for the artists and arts organizations in Alexandria) and as President of the Alexandria Arts Forum (a group of our fellow local arts organizations, arts enthusiasts, and individual arts whose mission is advocacy, networking and education).    Being part of a fun, diverse, and supportive group of people who love making music together is what keeps her coming back!

By day, Marla is a partner in the law firm of DeCaro & Howell, specializing in corporate, tax, estate planning and bankruptcy law.   She is a member of the, Maryland State Bar, American Bar Association, and the bar of the United State Supreme Court.  In addition to music, Marla enjoys skiing, tennis and travel
