DC Area Singers Wanted

We hold open auditions for new members twice a year, in January and in August/September.  Joe Cerutti has joined us as our new Music Director, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the Singers family.  We have transitioned our rehearsal night to Wednesdays from 7-9:30 pm and are in the process of securing a permanent location.   Our next Guest and Audition night for the Fall 2025 season will be held in person at our temporary rehearsal location at the offices of Alex Renew, 1800 Limerick Street, 6th floor, Alexandria, VA 22314 on Wednesday September 10, 2025.  If you haven’t already, please complete our Audition Inquiry/Application to make an appointment to attend our Guest and Audition night on September 10th.  If you have any other questions, please contact our Membership VPs at [email protected].

When You Arrive:

The Guest Night will begin at 6:30 pm.  When arriving, please enter from the parking garage or through the lobby and take the elevator to the 6th floor.  From there, follow the posted signs to check in. The Membership Team will greet you and provide a basic orientation to answer any questions you might have. If you have not completed our application online, you will be asked to complete a short audition form (providing basic contact information and details regarding your musical background and experience). After the orientation, all perspective members will “sit in”, warmup, and sing along with us through an abbreviated rehearsal. You will also have an opportunity to see the Singers perform, so that you can get an idea of what we do.

The Audition Process:

After Guest Night has concluded the audition process begins!  It consists of two segments: singing and choreography.

For the choreography segment, you do not need to prepare anything. The Creative Director will teach you some basic choreography steps, and this segment is typically done as a group standing among the chorus as we learn or refresh a piece.

The singing portion of the audition will take place at the end of rehearsal, and each prospective member will meet individually with our panel- which includes the Director, Choreographer and Board President (or other creative team representative) for a private, individual voice audition. The Music Director asks that you bring a prepared piece to perform, with sheet music for our accompanist, if possible. (You can bring a recorded track to sing along with, if you prefer, provided that there are no vocals on the recording. We will have a Bluetooth speaker to plug a device into.)  Your audition piece can be anything you like from any genre that you feel showcases your voice.  If you do not have a prepared piece, you may sing "My Country, 'Tis of Thee". Our director may then guide you through testing your vocal range and a few simple vocal exercises. The entire process is designed for you to be as comfortable as possible and be at your best!

The individual audition process itself takes about 10-15 minutes.

After Audition:

You will be notified by the Membership Team within a week of the audition as to whether or not you have been accepted as a member of the Singers.  New Members will attend rehearsals beginning Wednesday, September 24th.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our Membership Co-VPs at [email protected].
